2017 International Vocal Competition Prize Winners

The Class of 2017: Names You Already Know

The 2017 Top and First Prize winners went on to some of the biggest stages in the world. Emily D’Angelo has sung at the Royal Opera House and the Paris Opera and has received the Glenn Gould Protégé Prize. Alasdair Kent is a member of the Vienna State Opera ensemble and has also appeared at the Paris Opera. Lawson Anderson has appeared at the Bayreuth Festival and at the Zurich Opera House, and Angela Vallone is a member of the Oper Frankfurt ensemble. Top Prize winners Andre Courville and Vanessa Vasquez have both appeared at Santa Fe Opera, Courville at Houston Grand Opera and Vasquez at Seattle Opera. Many of them were no strangers to us. Emily D’Angelo and Alasdair Kent had won at our Lieder/Song Vocal Competition in 2015, Angela Vallone and Maria Brea in 2016, and Joseph Barron, Fanyong Du, Justin Austin and Mackenzie Whitney had already been among the 2016 IVC winners. From the Wagnerian Division (Liederkranz Foundation), Suzanne Hendrix and Viktor Antipenko also continue to sing professionally.
