The Gerda Lissner Foundation Art Song Competition: 2025 Overview and Update
Welcome to the Annual Art Song Competition!
The Gerda Lissner Foundation is delighted to welcome aspiring vocalists to its annual Art Song Competition! This year, 191 entries were received, highlighting the excitement and passion for art song among young singers.
92 talented performers have been chosen to participate in the preliminary round, held October 14–16, where they’ll be heard by a panel of five respected judges who will preside over both the preliminary and final rounds. We are honored to welcome Francesco Barfoed, Tyson Deaton, Nathaniel LaNasa, Beth Roberts and Midge Woolsey. Their evaluations will ensure that the highest standards of artistic integrity and technical proficiency are upheld throughout the competition process. Collaborative pianist Arlene Shrut will accompany performers throughout preliminary and final rounds, enriching every stage of the competition with her artistry.
Established in 2015, The Gerda Lissner Foundation’s Art Song Competition was inaugurated with a singular vision: to highlight the central role that art song plays in a singer’s artistic journey. After the preliminary round, a select group of finalists will be invited to share their artistry in the final round on October 17.
Winners will be awarded the following prizes:
- $10,000 for first place
- $7,000 for second
- $4,500 for third
Additional grants and encouragement awards will be given to other finalists. The top three laureates will perform at Carnegie Hall on April 29, 2026—a truly memorable occasion!
The Gerda Lissner Foundation is proud to support young singers and keep the tradition of art song alive and thriving. We look forward to celebrating all participants!
